Senior Design Engineer: Water / Wastewater

Location: Muscat, Oman Project: Major Regional Infrastructure Development

The Design Role:

We are representing a premier international engineering consultancy currently expanding their infrastructure design team in Muscat. We are seeking a Senior Water /Wastewater Design Engineer to take full technical ownership of hydraulic modelling and the detailed design of water and sewer networks for a flagship regional project. Your experience must be mainly Wastewater a minimum of 60% wastewater/ 40% Clean Water Projects.

Note to Applicants: This is a hands-on, technical delivery role. You will be responsible for the end-to-end design of critical infrastructure. While you will provide technical guidance and oversight to the broader team, this is not a traditional management vacancy. We require a subject matter expert who prefers the precision of design and modelling over the administrative burden of managing client schedules or personnel. You will be expected to maintain a significant individual design workload alongside your technical oversight duties.

PLEASE NOTE: Bentley HAMMER and strong experience of Transient Surge Analysis are MANDATORY requirements of this role. We are not seeking candidates who have moved into management or Project Management or any other sphere. This is a pure design role.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Delivery: Lead the design and optimisation of water, sewer, and stormwater systems through personal, hands-on hydraulic modelling.
Technical Oversight: Review and validate design inputs and outputs across the design team to ensure technical excellence, while personally executing core modelling tasks.
Design Leadership: Act as the project’s technical subject matter expert, providing mentorship to junior staff by demonstrating best practices through your own active design work.
Analysis: Perform complex hydraulic modeling and detailed surge analysis using WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, and Bentley HAMMER ( Advanced OR Super User)
Documentation: Produce high-quality technical reports, IFC-level design calculations, and detailed drawings with minimal oversight.

Mandatory Requirements

Experience: Minimum 12-15 years of professional experience in water and wastewater design.
Wastewater-First Background: Candidates must demonstrate extensive experience in major wastewater projects, not just water distribution with incidental wastewater work.
Technical Sovereignty: Mastery of SewerGEMS and Bentley HAMMER for gravity and pressurized sewage networks (force mains) is non-negotiable.
Software Mastery: Expert-level proficiency in WaterGEMS, SewerGEMS, and Bentley HAMMER. You must be able to demonstrate recent, hands-on experience performing complex transient/surge analysis.
Technical Depth: Extensive experience in distribution and transmission systems, pumping station design, and wastewater collection networks, urban infrastructure design.
Independence: Proven ability to work autonomously, delivering complex technical designs while simultaneously ensuring the technical accuracy of team outputs.
Qualifications: Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering (Master’s degree highly preferred).

Salary & Benefits for the Senior Water/ Wastewater Engineer

Total Package: Fixed 1,100 – 1,400 OMR per month (All-inclusive). * Note: This is a production-focused appointment. The package is fixed and covers all housing and transport requirements. Visa, medical cover, and flight allowances are provided in addition to the salary. The salary banding is NOT negotiable. Our client has set bandings across the company. PLEASE ALSO NOTE: Salaries in OMAN are less than the rest of the Middle East, the cost of living is less.
